Why I’m Using A .Hosting Domain

Black Knight, Chess Piece On A Wooden Table

I had my reasons for launching this site, which I touched on in my first post.

But what about the choice of domain?

I could have easily used a sub-domain off blacknight.com or any one of hundreds of other domains either myself or the company hold.

But instead I chose ceo.hosting and it wasn’t accidental. Anyone who knows me well enough probably knows that while I might do things quite spontaneously there’s usually a rationale.

With the launch of new TLDs (the bit on the right of the dot) there are now literally hundreds of domain extensions to choose from.

But not all domain extensions were created equal.

As CEO I could have chosen to use a .ceo domain. I could have. I didn’t and I can’t imagine a reality in which I would want to. I think the .ceo top level domain is a horrible and totally pointless domain extension. If you’re CEO and you’re anyway sane you probably already have a good domain. And being CEO is just part of your identity. It doesn’t define you. Why on earth would you need a .ceo domain? To remind people who you are? To compensate for some other inadequacy?

Now I work in hosting and domains. So choosing a domain name that went well with my chosen profession and industry made perfect sense to me. I grabbed a couple of .hosting domains a couple of months back that I liked, though I wasn’t 100% sure what I was going to do with them at the time.

So when I decided to launch this site I looked at which domains I had and chose the one that I felt most appropriate.

And that’s one of the cool things about having hundreds of domain extensions to choose from:

What do you think of the choice of domain name? Let me know via the comments 🙂
