The IANA Transition Is Done And The Internet Is Still Working Just Fine

4th October 2016 by Michele Leave a Comment

Horse silhouette on a background of dawn. Horse grazes, walks on the fieldThe IANA transition. Unless you’re an internet governance nerd you probably haven’t heard about it and to be frank, you probably don’t need to.

It’s something that a lot of people have been talking about a lot over the last few months. With some predicting an almost doomsday type scenario if the US government were to give up what little control they retained.

However the transition did take place last Friday night and nothing changed. At least not for most people.

The internet keeps working. Our servers are still online. You can still watch your cat videos.

Unfortunately some people are still claiming that Obama gave away the internet to Russia.. and others are still harping on about how much free speech will be lost due to this change. Neither is true.

You can read a bit more about it all over on the company blog.
